Activities:
Amateur Radio Field Day is an annual nationwide exercise in which amateur
radio operators across the United States and Canada set up radio stations in the field to
practice communications under unusual circumstances, such as would be encountered in
an emergency situation. The objective during the operational period is to contact as
many stations as possible. It is a friendly social event as well, but with a serious purpose
of practicing emergency preparedness skills.
We will have several stations set up using a variety of communications
technologies, including satellite, computer, voice, and morse code, and we will be
transmitting over long distance shortwave, satellite, and local/regional VHF signal paths.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Amateur Radio, see
communications and radio/computer technology up close, and to participate if you like.
Mentors will be available.
On Saturday from about 5 - 6 PM there will also be a pot-luck dinner for ARA
club members and their guests. Operations stop during this time. The club will provide
meats, plasticware, plates and napkins. Club members are requested to bring a covered
dish item to supplement the meal. The meal is a family activity, so be sure to bring them
or have them stop by at meal time! Some food and drink will also be available at other
times.
Come, look, learn and try your hand at ham radio!
