The ARA provides 2 meter ham radio communications support for the bicycle segment of the race. Volunteers operate along the country roads using their car mobiles or handie talkie. The ARA has assisted with communications for this event for the last few years, and I have always found it a rewarding experience; if you have a few hours on Sunday 8/2/2020 please consider volunteering a few hours of your day. The Antietam Radio Association is sponsoring a hands-on WinLink 2000 (WL2K) Training Class this Saturday May 11, presented by ARRL Maryland-DC Section Emergency Coordinator Jim Montgomery, WB3KAS. WinLink 2000 (WL2K) combines radio and Internet connectivity to allow worldwide email-over-radio capability, with the radio transparent to the user. WL2K figures prominently in emergency and contingency communications support:
The Great Hagerstown Mafest begins (for vendors and tailgaters) at 6:00 AM, and the gates open at 7:00 AM to the general public.
